The cheapest way to send Certified Mail online depends on whether you'll print it yourself. Label services (Certified Mail Labels ~$6.99, SimpleCertifiedMail from $7.48) are cheapest but you still print, stuff, and hand the envelope to USPS. Full print-and-mail services do everything: Mailform ($11.98 for one certified page) and paperplane ($12.99, $14.99 with electronic Return Receipt, no account) are within about a dollar of each other. At the post office counter it's $6.37 plus your paper, envelope, and the trip.
Every service on this page is a real, working way to send USPS Certified Mail without standing in line. They split into two categories that are not interchangeable: label services, which sell you the certified label/cover sheet and proof tracking but leave printing, stuffing, and getting the envelope to USPS to you — and print-and-mail services, which take a document and do everything. Comparing a $6.99 label to a $12.99 mailed letter is comparing an ingredient to a meal; the table below keeps the categories explicit. How we sourced this (and what we couldn’t verify)
- Verified directly: Mailform’s numbers come from mailform.io/pricing as of August 26, 2026 ($2.99 first page, $0.49/additional page, +$8.99 certified, +$3.02 ERR, +$5.30 physical green card). USPS counter figures are the July 2026 USPS rates ($5.55 certified fee + $0.82 First-Class stamp; ERR $2.91) — explained in our certified mail cost guide.
- Verified from the vendor’s published rate pages: Certified Mail Labels (~$6.99 with electronic delivery confirmation, ~$10.65 with ERR signature, small card surcharge) and SimpleCertifiedMail (“from $7.48,” $10.39 with ERR, no monthly fee, $60 prefund) — both sites block automated access, so these come from their own published pricing and rate pages rather than a same-day fetch of the checkout flow.
- Could not verify: Click2Mail’s single-piece certified price. Their published certified figures (~$4.68–$4.86/piece) are quoted on a 50,000-piece bulk basis, and their pricing page blocked our check of the single-letter rate — expect a single piece to cost meaningfully more than the bulk figure, and check their site. We’d rather leave a cell honest than fill it with a guess.
Which one should you actually use?
- You have a printer, envelopes, and a mailbox on your route: a label service is the cheapest legitimate option. Certified Mail Labels and SimpleCertifiedMail have both been doing this for years, and both replace the green card with cheaper electronic proof. The hidden cost is your time and the failure mode of the letter sitting on your desk.
- You send certified mail constantly, in volume, from an office: SimpleCertifiedMail’s prefunded workflow and included window envelopes are built for exactly that, and Click2Mail’s bulk rates get very sharp at real volume.
- You need overnight or FedEx alongside certified: Mailform — its carrier menu is broader than ours, and its single-page certified price is about a dollar under ours.
- You want to paste text or upload a PDF, pay, and be done — no printer, no account: that is the product we built. $12.99 covers printing, envelope, postage, certified fee, and tracking; ERR is $2 more.
