Certified Mail cost calculator

Justin WinterBy · Updated August 28, 2026

Set the page count, color, and whether you want a return receipt, and this works out the all-in price to have the letter printed, stuffed, stamped, and handed to USPS for you — the same number the send flow and the API charge.

Certified Mail quotes online vary wildly because most of them leave something out: the printing, the envelope, the return receipt, or the trip. This one does not. Set your letter up below and the number you get is the number you would pay to have it printed, sealed, stamped and handed to USPS.

What the price covers

Printing the pages, the envelope, the Certified label and barcode, First-Class postage, the USPS Certified Mail fee, and the handoff to USPS the next business day. With the electronic Return Receipt added, the signed delivery record as well. Comparing that number against your own time and a trip to the counter is the honest way to decide.

What the price does not depend on

  • Distance. Domestic letter postage and the Certified fee are flat across the country.
  • Who the recipient is. A landlord, the IRS, and a former employer all cost the same to write to.
  • How urgent it is. Speed is a mail class decision, not a Certified one — see the delivery date estimator for what each class means in days.

Common questions

Does Certified Mail cost more to send farther away?

No. Certified Mail is a flat extra service on top of First-Class letter postage, and neither varies by distance within the United States. A letter across town and a letter across the country cost the same, which is why this calculator does not ask for a ZIP code.

Is postage included?

Yes. The price covers printing, the envelope, First-Class postage, the USPS Certified Mail fee and, if you add it, the electronic Return Receipt. There is nothing to add at checkout.

What is not included in these numbers?

Extra services we do not sell: the physical green-card return receipt (PS Form 3811), Restricted Delivery, and USPS insurance are not quoted here. Pages change the price by $0.25 each up to the 12-page limit; color is $0.50 a page.

Is the calculator the real price?

Yes. It calls the same pricing function the send flow and the API use to quote a real order, so the total shown here is the total at checkout for a letter with those settings.
